Overviews
Introduction to
computers in business
This suite of courses are
squarely aimed at the computer novice, with
the intention of removing the fear caused by
being unfamiliar with the personal computer
and its various software products.
Day
1 (Introduction)
The
attendees are taken through the basic
functions of a PC in an understandable and
jargon free manner, allowing them to
understand what is meant by terms like
hardware, software and the many other
aspects of computing. By the end of day all
attendees are able to understand and
navigate the windows environment ready to
become productive.
Day
2 (Word Processing, Database and Mail merge)
The
aim of today is to show where the attendees
can use both word processing and database to
perform a simple mail merge, with the
intention of producing a mail merge with the
personal touch. The day is a “hands on”
day and gives plenty of opportunity to
re-enforce the skills gained on day one.
Day
3 (Spreadsheets and graphic manipulation)
Day
three covers the basics of spreadsheets,
starting with a simple example, which is
then graphed, leading on to producing a full
cash flow projection spreadsheet while
discussing the business requirements of such
a sheet. The day is another “hands on”
day that also re-enforces the skills learned
previously. Also covered is the method of
scanning images and manipulating or
correcting them with a photo re-touch
programme.
Day
4 (Networking, Internet, Email Etc)
The
final day of the course is a discussion of
connecting computers together, starting with
the explanation of a simple LAN, progressing
through WAN, FTP and on to email and the
internet. The day provides an understanding
of how the Internet and some of it’s
various functions work. The afternoon is
spent covering email, search engines and
getting “hands on” experience.

First Steps
Workshop Series
The First
Steps workshop series provides a selection
of learning opportunities; all aimed at
helping businesses take their fist steps in
some aspect of e-business adoption.
Each Half
Day workshop is highly interactive and
approaches issues from a business driven
perspective rather than a technology
standpoint.
Introduction to Email
Provides the knowledge and skills necessary to understand how Email works and the ability the use Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express to send and receive mail and use
newsgroups.
Introduction to Web Page Creation
Explaining and demonstrating how web pages work, this course provides the opportunity to develop a simple web page using HTML code.
Web Site Design
Using Microsoft Front Page web design software, this course also covers the main considerations to be taken into account before design work is started.
Internet Search Techniques
Introducing the many techniques which can be used to make your time spent on the Internet more productive, the course demonstrates the variety and use of search
engines.
Web Site Maintenance
Provides an understanding of the techniques required in order to ensure the information on a web site is kept up to
date and ways to make your web-site more accessible
to your clients and prospective clients.
